Dairy farmers often apply solid manure to their forage crops. Manure nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium provide nutrients (fertilizer) and organic matter improves soil health. Applying too little nitrogen to crops can stunt crop yields, while applying too much can have negative effects on groundwater quality.
