California's forests are under increasing pressure from urban expansion and related land use conversion, along with increased risk of devastating forest fires, extreme drought, and insect and disease epidemics. Active forest management can help control these risks by reducing tree mortality and increasing forest health.
Forestry and forest-products industries are important contributors to Californiaās economy. This analysis provides an estimate of the direct economic benefits of current forest management activities and related forest-products manufacturing, not only to rural, forest-dependent communities but also to urban areas that benefit from downstream, forest-products manufacturing.
